+30% Engagement, -60% Fraudsters

TileTap is a mobile-first survey app built to improve engagement, retention, and data quality for survey panelists. In Summer 2024, we gathered in Amsterdam to reimagine the panelist experience, with a focus on usability, personalization, and motivation.

01
Research & Problem
Panelists were frustrated with technical issues, unclear rewards, and limited survey access—leading to low engagement and trust. We analyzed app store reviews, conducted a sentiment meta-analysis, and studied competitors like SurveyMonkey and Prolific. We also explored identity verification methods to improve data quality without slowing down onboarding. Our team prioritized four design principles: hook users early, guide them clearly, remove friction, and reward participation. Through concept refinement, we shaped TileTap to be engaging, secure, and easy to use—designed specifically for mobile.

Design Solutions

Smart, Secure Onboarding

We introduced a short 5-question onboarding survey and mobile-friendly identity verification using MFA and real-time validation—ensuring ease of entry and reliable data.

Daily Polls

A playful survey format makes it easy to find and complete surveys, with clear paths and responsive design optimized for mobile.

Gamified Engagement System

Daily polls, instant rewards, and tiered progression with personalized communication motivate ongoing participation. Users see their impact, not just their payouts.

Conclusion

This solution reflects a shift from transactional survey-taking to a more personalized, game-like experience. By addressing key frustrations and introducing playful, mobile-first features, we helped Ipsos lay the groundwork for stronger long-term engagement. This project shows how thoughtful design—grounded in research—can transform even the most utility-driven apps into something users genuinely enjoy coming back to.
